Australienation

Photographic series · Pigmented inkjet prints

Australienation is a pastiche of 1970s sci-fi film stills that examines how Hollywood sensationalizes conflict and invasion. Shot on iPhone and processed to emulate period CGI, the work uses domestic kitsch as substitutes for historical horror.

The series explores future history and questions what we take for granted as "the truth" – how filmmaking technology and storytelling evolve to shape our understanding of real events through science fiction's lens.

Production Notes

Principal photography was shot entirely on iPhone, with post-production montage and effects completed in Photoshop to emulate the visual aesthetic of 1970s-era CGI and filmmaking technology.

Three scenes removed from the final series – too confronting, narratively redundant, or both.
